Join the Movement for Journalist Safety

Our vision can be articulated through several potiental statements

Reclaiming the African Narrative – We aim to shift perceptions by telling authentic African stories that resonate with both local and international audiences.

Elevating African Stories – We seek to uplift narratives that reflect the richness and diversity of African experiences.

Crafting Tomorrow’s African Narratives” – Our goal is to shape a new era of storytelling that empowers future generations of journalists.

Our journey into journalism was driven by a shared
passion for amplifying untold stories and fostering social change. Co-founders Henry Mugenyi and Godfrey Badebye combined their diverse experiences to shape the mission of Ukweli Africa in investigative journalism.

Henry’s career at NBS Television allowed him to engage deeply with communities and uncover critical issues, while Godfrey brought over 13 years of expertise as a cinematographer and media expert, collaborating with global outlets like the BBC to craft compelling narratives.

Their shared vision emerged at NBS, where they
recognized the need for high-quality investigative reporting and greater mental health support for journalists.

Inspired by organizations like Afrobarometer, Internews, and CIPESA, Ukweli Africa aims to redefine journalism by integrating data-driven storytelling, journalist safety, and mental health awareness. Through collaboration and innovation, we are committed to creating a resilient media landscape that empowers journalists to uncover truths and drive meaningful social impact.
